    Foreword by Matthew Sweeney

"I am honoured to write the foreword for Yoga: The Art of Adjusting.

The detailed art of adjusting Yoga postures has been accomplished in this book in a loving and practical format. It also comes at a fortuitous moment. With the rapid increase of Yoga teachers all over the globe during the last few years, greater understanding of the art of adjusting has been missing in the printed form.

I think Brian Cooper has done an excellent job of covering the key points of adjusting most of the postures of the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga. He clearly explains the main focus of each posture, the direction to take with each posture and eventually how to learn to do each posture unaided without an adjustment.

The visual aspects of each posture are conveyed precisely in a step-by-step format giving the reader practical insight into the wonderful art of touch. Enjoy!"

    1. At last…the illustrated art of adjusting asana! Review by Yoga and Joyful Living Magazine
      Quality

At last…the illustrated art of adjusting asana! Every teacher I know wants to refine their hands-on adjustments; and every student I know is keen to be adjusted. Comprised of over 200 pages illustrated with hundreds of photos, this hardcover, spiral-bound manual is the answer to a teacher’s need for teaching methods, and a student’s plea for help in deepening their practice.

The manual discusses types of adjustments (“passive,” “resistance,” “active,” “partner,” “self-adjustment”), the mechanics of adjusting, and detailed instructions for surya namaskara, 12 standing poses, and more than 20 other asanas. The layout features a description of key alignment tips and other important features for each pose, plus common misalignments. It also illustrates and simply describes various adjustments in easy-to-read detail. Bonus chapters on partner yoga and Thai massage are natural outgrowths of the hands-on assists. You’ll want a space on your bookshelf for Yoga: The Art of Adjusting.

    3. Best Yoga Book on the Market Review by Jess Collins

I have studied with Brian Cooper for many years and he really is one of the 'hidden' gems of yoga.

Brian Cooper is the director of Yoga Alliance UK, the main teacher training organisation in the UK. WIth over 40 years direct experience in practising / teaching yoga his knowledge and expertise is second to none.

This first book by Brian is a joy to read filling a much needed gap in the market. The book is a large format, hard cover, spiral bound (similar to David Swensons Practice Manual style)with LOTS of large beautiful pictures and bullet point descriptions.

In addition to Asana Adjustments there are sections on Partner Yoga (with the best Partner Pictures I've ever seen!) and Thai Massage.

It's a joy to look at even if you never want to teach.

This book should be on all teacher training course compulsory books.

Buy it today you wont regret it. (Posted on 26/04/2010)
